A European businessman paid €1 million (approx Rs 7.39 crore) to a celebrated photographer to buy a photograph of an Irish potato.
The photographer according to an English daily, Kevin Abosch sold the photograph of an organic potato shot on a black background to the European businessman who is unnamed.
Reportedly, the photo was taken in 2010 and this shot sits alongside shots of Steven Spielberg, Michael Palin, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg and Malala Yousafzai in the most sought-after photographer’s portfolio.
According to the English daily, there are three versions of the potato print out of which one belongs in his private collection, another donated to an art museum in Serbia and third sold.
As per Sunday Times report, Abosch said, “It is not the first time that someone has bought the art right off my wall.”
“We had two glasses of wine and he said, ‘I really like that’. Two more glasses of wine and he said, ‘I really want that’,” he added.
The price was set two weeks later. Abosch said that this it is the most he has been paid for a piece of work that has been bought.
The photographer was also invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
